NEXT MEETING: No: 4556 Wednesday 25th August 2021 at RSL, 6pm for 6.15pm start

PROGRAM Meeting 4556:   Natalie Zwar.           “Toastmasters”

Report on Meeting 4555, on Wednesday 18th August 2021
From President Patrick
Welcome members to the meeting tonight.  Trevor has organised a fellowship evening at Jens this coming Friday night, 20th August, commencing at 6.30pm.
Alan is organising the BBQ at the recycle centre this Saturday. Those assisting are John W, John B, Willem and Neil.
There is a working bee this Sunday morning, 22nd August, at the Hastings-Cunningham        reserve, commencing at 9am, to sort more books for the Book Fair. Bill is about to organise the advertising for the Book Fair.
Our AGM will be held on 24th November.  Several Club positions will need to be filled, including the position of assistant to the Club Secretary.  We also need to look at having a backup     member available for the key positions, so that the backup person is able to fill-in when the    primary position holder is away, or is unable to fulfil the duties. Please see Bruce if you might be able to fill one of the vacant Club positions.
Club sergeant until meeting on 15th September: Morrie Watson
Spot Talks:
Ian:  As indicated by President Pat, we will have another working bee at the shed at Hastings-Cunningham reserve on Sunday, 22nd August, commencing at 9am.
Our book fair is scheduled for the weekend of 23rd and 24th of October, not too far away, and we still have a lot of work to do.  There are still more books to be sorted for the book fair.
In addition, we will be siting a couple of bins, at the Library and the ABC, to  encourage people to donate good quality books that we will be able to re-sell at the book fair at the Town Hall.
Rob: The North Gambier school are planning a book week in the next few weeks and they hope to give each student a book to keep at the end of the week.  We have been asked to donate suitable children’s books to the school.  With the agreement of Club members, Rob and a    couple of the teachers will collect books from the shed later this week.
John: Thanks to work done by President Pat’s secretary and Ian, we now have a forward planner available for the remainder of the year.  The planner lists each meeting and event   until the end of December and Ian is presently work on the planner for 2022.  The planner will be   e-mailed to members with the Bulletin, probably about once a month, commencing with this edition of the Bulletin.
Alan: Just a short reminder to members assisting a the re-use BBQ this Saturday. Please bring a mask.  Under Covid rules, the wearing of a mask is mandatory at the moment
A few weeks ago I asked members to consider becoming Covid Marshals for the Christmas Parade.  Thanks to those members who did the on-line course, but we will not need the     Marshals, as the Christmas Parade along Commercial Street has been cancelled and will be replaced by a “drive by” down in the Valley Lakes area, similar to last year.  The floats will be a static event with people being able to view the floats from their car as they drive by.
Raz: We have received an e-mail from the committee that organises the Sunset Kitchen.  There are occasional vacancies in some of the crews who prepare and serve the food at the kitchen.  Vacancies at the moment are on two dates in October and further dates in November and December.  If you are able to assist, please speak to Raz in the first instance to obtain contact details

ShelterBox News
The death toll from the 7.2 magnitude earthquake in Haiti has risen to more than 2,000, with an estimated 61,000 homes damaged or destroyed and 135,000 families displaced. The search and rescue to find survivors is the priority right now. The dire situation has been made worse by the arrival of Tropical Depression Grace, bringing heavy rain, flooding, and landslides. Many people face these conditions without a roof over their heads. ShelterBox is deploying an operations team to the region and is consulting with Rotary International,     Habitat for Humanity, and the IFRC, to understand the shelter needs and how ShelterBox can best respond to help the displaced families.
